IN OTHER NEWS I'm taking a long plane trip this week and here is my guide to turning plane trips into mini vacations: 1. Smear lotion all over your face and hands, repeatedly 2. Bring a rad book 3. Bring good headphones 4. Don't buy the wifi 5. Do buy the food

I am extremely hesitant to use ear plugs on a plane

Because of air pressure changes? I hadn't thought about that being an issue. I guess you could do the same thing with noise-cancelling headphones + white noise.

I can confirm that over-ear style noise-cancelling headphones are a really big help on an airplane. Even without white noise so long as they have power (I've used them at least once powered on without even being plugged in).

8. Eat the meal only if it's at a sensible time for your destination - that 4am 'breakfast' will screw you over with jetlag later. 9. Use the time for pondering - no interruptions means I get some of my best thinking/writing done on flights. Source: Aussie living in the US.
