TIL Deer (more accurately, doe) tastes unexpectedly delicious Shotgun packs more of a kickback than last time I shot one (either me getting older or EU double-barrels having more boom per stick :)) Tits (the bird) are horrifying. Flying vicious fearless piranhas.
Apparently it's illegal to sell wild game in California. I used to get kangaroo and deer (from govt culling programs) fairly inexpensivelg at the supermarket in Australia. No such luck here.

Oh bum. That puts a stop to that one then. We eat kangaroo steaks and other game regularly when we’re in Australia. It’s so readily available, good quality & often cheaper than other meat. Also the offal, more than in UK and US. It’s interesting how different food cultures are.

Dunno, I think there’s a significant TSE risk in US. Maybe something to do with that. Eating wild deer & elk is regulated.

One of the many reasons I loved living in Finland was the readily available game in the markets.

I made 10 litres of reindeer aspic one time. I’d intended to make stews & freeze the stuff but it was so good I drank it all in a few days.

We met a grass food farmer at Double Bay, used to buy from him regularly. He invited us to his ranch. Never got there yet, but maybe next time.
