I personally don‘t know if I would take a #cure for my #autism because it is a part of every bit of my being so I cannot know what kind of person I would turn into without it.
At the same time if you are #autistic and do want a cure for yourself that is perfectly valid.

It is problematic to generally advocate for curing all autistics just as it is problematic to generally advocate for no autistic getting a cure ever. Each of us should be autonomous. That includes being allowed this decision for themselves. Of course there are facets to this.

The biggest problem is if there ever were a cure how to ensure it is only given to those
#ActuallyAutistic who actually want it? That it isn‘t given forced. That it isn‘t given because OTHERS want autistics to become allistic. THAT is what worries me when thinking about a cure.Show this thread -
The way society currently is set up there is absolutely no doubt that a cure for
#autism would be given to autistics by their parents or legal guardians, caregivers, doctors, without consent. No. Doubt. Whatsoever. And that is unacceptable.Show this thread -
And unfortunately as soon as a cure exists it will get abused. No. Doubt. Thus I cannot say ‚Just find the cure, work on it. We‘ll fifure it out.‘ No. It needs to be figured out before the cure exists. The second it exists it will get abused. This is a huge problematic issue.

What would the solution be? I honestly don‘t know. I just know that having this discussion openly, honestly, from all perspectives, is vital to figure it out. I‘m not sure there can be a solution that ensures all parties autonomy and safety.

And just because it‘s starting already: Before you come into my thread and comment on my words READ the words. And don‘t even start twisting them to suit whatever accusations you feel like throwing at me. I got no more patience for that. Zero.

It‘s good and important to promote autistic self love. I do that too. It‘s good and important to promote societal changes, autism acceptance, autonomy, more support, services. I do that too. Reality is we don‘t have those things today to a point where every autistic is happy.

And if any autistic person wishes to not be autistic anymore that is valid. I am going to stand behind that until the day I die. Doesn‘t mean I promote self hate. I promote acceptance. And that includes that people aren‘t any less valid because they don‘t love themselves.

And just in case this wasn‘t as clear for everyone else as it was for me before writing this: If you are not
#autistic you do not get a say in this. None at all. The only people allowed to discuss a cure for#autism are#ActuallyAutistic people.Show this thread -
No, I do not support eugenics. I honestly don‘t understand whee this interpretation is coming from but it‘s just wrong. I don‘t. Never have, never will. And no, I do not and never will support anyone giving a possible cure to autistics other than the autistic themselves.

I am apparently getting blocked by people for this thread on the basis of false claims on their part. Not sure how to feel about that quite yet. I hate the feeling of injustice whenever my words get misinterpreted or twisted into something harmful. I absolutely hate it.

Then by that thinking it's okay to promote racism, genocide, and eugenics publically, right? I mean, if all opinions are equally valid....
#ActuallyAutistic -
No idea how you get from what I am talking about to the ridiculous assumptions you are spouting but stop doing that in my thras please.
-
Let me help: you're saying that it's okay for an autistic to hate how they were born. You should encourage love of oneself and others to do the same. Autistics are fine just as we are.

Stop putting words in my mouth. Feel free to have a respectful discussion with me about what I actually said. If you can‘t do that feel free to just leave. I got no time for word twisters. You follow me no? You know full well what I do or don‘t promote.

Words don't fall evenly on everyone. Those who already suffer from self-hatred and discrimination don't start from the same place as those who have support. Encouragement from everyone should take precedent over validation of self-hatred. Just a word of advice.

I am one of those people you are talking about here. And that is exactly the reason I say the things I say. There is no cure promoting in my words. There is no self hate promoting in my words. There is no black and white in my words. I am not letting anyone twist them.
