    A sweet story about my daughter's transition: Having your name & gender legally changed is a Herculean effort. It's very expensive- the filing fee at the time was almost $500, the official court orders were $30 a copy, & you need an array of forms, including one from her MD.

    You don’t need to wait until someone is murdered to start reading books by authors from that group. You don’t need to wait for a tragedy to pick up a book by an Asian American, a Black author, a Muslim, a queer writer etc. You could read AND teach them all the time. JUST TRY IT.

    Last week, pines des rameaux came across my TL. While not romance hero size (I was worried they wouldn't bake well if I made monster peens), filled with chantilly cream & salted caramel, tipped in white choc, they are much easier to put in your mouth.

    Try “Mrs X <insert accurate name>was murdered at her workplace by a nameless faceless creep w/ what sounds like a him problem. Mrs X was a devoted mother of two, enjoyed gardening and running 5Ks in her spare time.” Humanize the victims. Stop giving their attackers a voice.

    I want to know their names, who and what they loved, the people they had waiting for them at home, everything they hoped for. I want to know the fabric of their days and the contexts of their lives.

    So many of us have been conditioned to be careful and always find the right words, because the stakes are so fucking high. I hate that even now, I catch myself second-guessing my words - what if I’m wrong, what if people use what I’m saying against me. It’s not irrational - (5/?)
