1) Imagine you are a young (late teens, early 20s) person who has only ever streamed to an audience of 5 people, sometimes without mic or webcam, and you are thrust onto a stage in front of hundreds of your peers and 100k+ viewers on Twitch. That shit is stressful!

2) GDQ is an important event, period. For speedrunning, it is important in a multitude of ways: it is our mecca, and doing a run there feels extremely important, so your hands have to do the play good, but your mouth also has to not open to release the dumb words.

3) Any mistake you make (pronounce a word weird, stutter, laugh too loud, laugh too soft, laugh at the wrong time, laugh at the right time, pull a weird face) gets thrown into a cringe compilation by people who want chuds like this to click on them, to be immortalized forever.

I mean, I'm in my early 30s, with a lot of experience on stage and on stream, and I get real nervous every time I get on that stage. The desire to do your best at an important moment when other people are watching has a name; it's called "stage fright".

It can be incredibly stressful and I will never cease to be impressed by how these people, my people, after practicing for years sometimes, come to show off their game in this very stressful setting, and manage to pull off these amazing runs and make everybody proud.

One last thought that only just crossed my mind, even though it is very obvious: for most, GDQ is the only time and only way they experience the speedrunning community. Of course, if that is all you see, speedrunners might seem "cringe". That is a hell of a lens to look through.

I see your algorithm to find GDQ-discourse it digging deep

These are my search terms: "(gdq OR gamesdonequick) AND (sjw OR cringe OR (sub AND only) OR ban OR cuck)" I add terms to it as I find ones that pick out better stuff.

GDQ is live, with regular people on camera for long, continuous periods of time. It's real, not just unscripted. And Reddit folks nitpick it. They see humanity in others and try to tear it down.

This. I guarantee anyone else would be just as "cringe" if you filmed them doing their hobbies live on camera with 100K+ watching. "Say Bob, we need you to weed your tomato garden with frame-perfect grabs in WR caliber time pls k thx"
