authorblues, who is trying his best‏ @authorblues 16 Jun 2019

For *reasons*, I follow a relatively elaborate search on Twitter that looks for anti-GDQ sentiment, and the most common negative comment that comes up is that the reason why GDQ is distasteful is bc of some oppressive system of rules that stymies runners' personalities.

Anybody who has followed general GDQ criticism has heard this, but what I find so interesting about this argument is that it is a talking point manufactured by hack YouTubers like Ap*llo Legend, et al and spread in the same ways that a lot of political talking points are spread.

Of course anybody who has ever done a run at any marathon knows that this isn't true and that they ask you to say fuck *less* than you usually would and not to say the gamer (with a hard R) word, but to people who have built a personality around punching down, this is censorship.

Otherwise, it's bad business to make runners exceedingly uninteresting in the name of some "corporate dogma" when the whole goal is producing entertaining content that would bring in donations. Anybody with a brain could tell you that it's complete nonsense.

But this is the sort of talking point created by post-/pol/ SRG and spread using the standard alt-right strategy: tell the lie, sound like you believe it's true, and others will assume it is. Eventually unsuspecting dimwits will repeat it as fact.

Anyways, all this to say, there's nothing interesting about the criticism itself, but how it is so common, despite not touching on any actual valid or worthwhile criticisms.

To them I ask, show me this rule and the people that try to "oppress personalities"

Can't say my run next Monday will be approached much different than my first SGDQ run 8 years ago, other than, of course, I'm 8 years older.

I think your search is missing some of the more salient criticisms from right-leaning gamers, including MSF/Doctors without Borders who assist human trafficking in the Mediterranean, Frame Fatales making the event an explicit endorsement of progressive identity politics

        1) I don't know about the first one, do you have actual receipts on that one, because this was the first hit for me on Google.https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/are-charitable-ngos-trafficking-people-across-the-mediterranean/ …
