With all due respect @sardesairajdeep, you are wrong about Sati. Most of Hindu India did not even practice Sati. It was a minor practice that emerged in just a few parts of India, in medieval times. Check the list of widows in the Ramayana/Mahabharata; Almost none committed Sati.https://twitter.com/sardesairajdeep/status/1056423190656962561 …

Let’s assume majority Keralities oppose SC order on Sabarimala. When Rammohun Roy campaigned to ban Sati, whole ‘Hindu India’ opposed him . So what? Q: if majority has a position which is socially reactionary, what should our moral responsibility be ? Think about it friends.

In fact, there was very very limited resistance to Raja Ram Mohan Roy on Sati. Most Hindus did not even react. Simply because they didn't practice Sati.

Logical answer by @authoramish. Of course, he'll be labeled a "Sanghi" & may be a #MeToo against him comes up too. I cheer his courage for silencing a loud mouth. Usually, when people get settled in life, they stop taking stands & get diplomatic but Amish did the right thing.

Prof. Meenakshi Jain’s monumental book on Sati is a good starting point. It states that a narrative of sati was cooked up by British Christian missionaries to demonise Indian civilisation and justify colonial rule in India.http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0376983617694691 …
