The Anzac story plays a very particular role in Australian culture, it asserts allegiance to the UK and glorifies mostly white Australians losing a battle in a pointless war. Pop in 1914 was less than 5Mil, now home to 25Mil. I wonder what recent migrants make of it?

Here's a question: if France and in particular the locals and council of Villers-Bretonneux liked our efforts in this war so much that they made all efforts to accommodate us, why did we pay for it-the Monash Centre I mean? Why didn't the French government pay for their thanks?
