Many of the Catholics I have observed would be revolted and dismayed by this statement. This is an edict they would completely ignore and reject - Even "Catholic Faith" has its boundaries...

The Pope’s statement seems very consistent with the Rerum Novarum encyclical from Pope Leo XIII back in the 1890s - not sure why Catholics today would have a problem with it.
