Adam, my parents 31 years ago arrived in Melbourne without knowing a lick of English. They both worked hard; went to TAFE to learn to read, write & speak English without any help from immediate family. Why not give some like my parents the same opportunity?

I know so many like your parents (in fact, some are now relatives!). They are the true backbone of this country, brave, real workers.
-
Exactly. I sick of reading articles like Adam saying Australia needs migrants who can speak English fluently. Excuse me, but Australia wouldn't be the country today if it wasn't for the Greeks, Italians, Vietnamese, Chinese, some Hispanics & Indians migrating to Australia

Yeah I do and have also spent time in Sth Africa so have known farmers from there. Easy when you don't have to pay real wages.

I’m sure if all non-white refugees learnt English, a new standard would be borne. Refugee protection shouldn’t be based on language but their need for protection.
-
Maybe the first criteria should be actually being refugees"? Definition of a refugee - someone who has been forced to leave their country due to war, persecution or natural disaster. By the way, plenty of people on Manus & Nauru who speak pretty good English.

Because of the 19,000 murders last year, only 59 were white farmers. That's hardly 'white genocide' worthy of refugee status, or a valid reason why Australia should only accept white immigrants. Maybe spend more time doing research rather than just reading Alt Right sites?

Maybe, and I know this sounds crazy, but maybe a refugee policy should focus on those most in need? Like people fleeing actual warzones?

Define "fit in" there are many Australians born here who choose not to "fit in" They don't believe in a "fair go" They ignore basic "rules of law" & They refuse to help those less fortunate Remember the Iraqi refugee who became a well respected Dr?

I guess (dimwit) because 1. That would be a racist policy and 2. White South African farmers, still living in South Africa, not having fled across borders to escape persecution, aren't refugees.
