Agreed. I suspect some businesses/people don't pay on time so that they get the "use value" of the money for as long as they can.

Profoundly idiotic idea. Like saying "If you lend someone money, they should repay you immediately" Let's ban doing work on credit!
-
I don’t understand how businesses getting paid upfront or immediately is idiotic. Not causing a “typical” twitter fight, I just want to understand your comment a little better
-
Providing trading terms is effectively a source of finance / credit. Ie. If I pay you 30 days after youve done work for me, you have leant me that amount for 30 days. Just another source / use of cash
-
A more reasonable agreement for businesses who can’t pay upfront is an automated payment plan with a small fee in exchange for slower cash flow for the supplier
-
Today terms are varied - deposits, paid on delivery, delayed. Sometimes you can arrange for immediate payment for a fee as you suggest. All these options exist to match the circumstances of the trade. Why ban any?
-
I get that. I work mostly on the b2b small business side, so I can’t speak to the enterprise side (or b2c), but when 2 parties enter an agreement, it should be upheld. 30 day terms in theory are fine if the terms are met, and the vendor can float the cash. But often, they can’t.
-
Or if the vendor can’t float the cash, the other issue is risking the resources (therefore lost opportunity if at capacity and a “good payer” comes along and they can’t fulfill)
-
Yep. Business have to manage competing cash needs. Not sure where the gov needs to come into it

Yeah great. ....then when big businesses string us out, fellow small businesses will rip us apart. "No advantage to big biz"... really?
