What a load of crap. Electric vehicles are fine for Australia and for the majority of Australians. Waiting for Judith Sloanes next piece extolling the plastic bag and disposable coffee cups.

It’s the inability or stupidity of so called intellectuals like Judith Sloan that are the problem. Cost of EVs is reciprocal to the amount of renewable energy generated! More renewable=cheaper cars! Build it and they will come!

By this logic, anyone who doesn't use MV's, such as the elderly, cyclists, etc., shouldn't be expected to "subsidize" motorists through their taxes. That's just how taxes work. None of the points explain how Aus is particularly ill-suited for EV's. Not a great article.

For cities only and a ride sharing type model .. the breadth of the geography is against it being a viable mainstream alternative until technology really advances
-
For cities only? Aren't we one of the most urbanised countries! In 2013 66% lived in cities and that is only projected to rise. So the Electric Car is perfect for two thirds of Australians!

When there is a Government commitment to provide the necessary infrastructure - then I am fully on board. There is a significant amount of heavy lifting needed here. If countries like Singapore can't achieve it - how can we?

Wake up Judith, electric cars have moved on a bit...and you may have noticed that there are servos at strategic points all over the country to allow you to fill up your hydrocarbon fueled transport, just like there will be forEVs

Luckily I don’t have a subs to The Oz so I can’t read Sloan. I wonder what Sloan’s arguments will look like in five years.

@australian you need to see where the majority of km’s are being driven in Australia: Metropolitan short distances. A small % of cars drive long distances (>400km). When swift change electric HGV’s get here, the haulage game will go electric, tooThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
