I don’t disagree with the sentiment but considering we have the world’s largest deposits of lithium and would like to reduce oil imports to zero, promoting electric cars internationally if not locally is in our best interest.

To be honest I think a huge rise in EVs would result in more grid infrastructure and slow a key trend - people wanting to disconnect from the grid. That technology is available today - you can take the average house off-grid for ~$60k. The grid needs to retain those customers.
