Captain Arthur Phillip's arrival was no invasion scene, writes @TrentDalton http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/inquirer/australia-day-special-arthur-phillip-captain-of-a-nation/news-story/65052572456e00c1a585dfd91f15bba9 …pic.twitter.com/IyD19s6Q41

“While some called for retribution, Phillip called for understanding.” Certainly, imperial policy, as set out clearly to new Gov of NSW IN 1837, was to respect Aboriginal people as fellow subjects of the Queen.

Some people believe a ship full of convicts with British prison guards invaded and CONQUERED this country. It does not seem much of a fight was made by the indiginous.

Phillip used as much force as was necessary. If the Eora had resisted immediately, the Marines would have been deployed. Complacency of the Eora caused military violence of an invasion to be delayed, not averted #AustraliaDay #changethedate #auspol

Simple: make Australia day the last Saturday in Jan. Monday holiday. Two day recovery. Keeps it I summer school holidays. No date alignment. Arrange cricket so is third test at newWACA. Problem solved.

So carrying defensive weapons is considered invading? Is like Aboriginals carrying spears or boomarangs the same thing or different because the weapons are primitive?
