I agree... children are still not safe from paedophile Catholic clergy and won't ever be until Canon law cites the rape of children, possession of child pornography, and the covering up of both, as criminal offences which must be reported to police.pic.twitter.com/yfntkuwSAB

Wrong child abuse must be reported as soon as it comes to the attention of anyone just like if a father or mother abused their child it is not to the other parent to stay silent or cover it up or move the problem to another group of people

If one child sex offender is stopped and brought to Justice it will be worth it. One child or more will be spared the horror of abuse. We owe it to all kids to try to stop it. Knowing of such offences and doing nothing is beneath contempt, and morally unjustifiable. 😕

As a parent , I note that Royal Commission recommended mandatory reporting because it makes children safer, and after 5 years of hearings they know what is essential. What would this bishop know?

Mandatory child sex reporting including from the confessional would bring the Catholic religion inline with the rest of society. That in itself may not have great effect but in doimg so it would change attitudes within the religious orders which will have much greater effect.
