We’re hoping to make it happen with a 2023-24 project on #RulesAsCode are almost there with DataLex datalex.org Policy colleagues can already do some debugging with the likes of documentation.custhelp.com/euf/assets/dev So we don’t think you’ll have to wait too long

If you don't already follow and want thoughtful, informed commentary on the First Nations Voice that cuts through the guff, do yourself a favour👇 #auspol #ulurustatement

This is nonsense & as was pointed out yesterday by A/Prof Hannah McGlade in the Oz, Senators Price & Thorpe & others will “make complaint and generate opposition” to anything the Govt does on the Voice #UluruStatement #auspol 🧵

A great achievement for free access

Today the @WhiteHouse announced that all federally funded research will be made openly available. Importantly, it eliminates the 12-month embargo. This is the result of decades of work by @SPARC_NA, @petersuber, @mbeisen, and so many more. #OpenAccess whitehouse.gov/ostp/news-upda

We are hoping this will be a useful resource for #RulesAsCode - gathering videos/channels from great sources like & #AUSCL/ and elsewhere, along with our own presentations

Launching our new YouTube channel youtube.com/channel/UCULL7. We think it’s the 1st for a legislative drafting office. So far our own videos are mostly us talking over slides, but our Playlists collect other people’s too– 1 is on legislative drafting generally & 1 is on #RulesAsCode

Transforming publishing agreements is very important but meanwhile it is worth remembering that has put over 100K Australasian law articles and related scholarship online austlii.edu.au/au/special/jou for free access. Enormous thanks to 150+ cooperating journals over 25 years.

"Moving towards a new ethos in scholarly publishing is important." Important perspective from @KathleeShearer @COAR_eV on role of repositories -noting that transformative agreements alone will only result in a slow and partial transition to #openaccess timeshighereducation.com/blog/transform

An interesting commentary exploring why journalists reporting on legal issues do not regularly link provide links to the primary sources of legislation and case law. Would be interested in feedback on the situation here in Australia. What do you think?

The difference it would make if even half our law firms did would be so amazing. Just look at how fantastic is with their certain and adequate funding from the legal profession. $10 per lawyer per year would make the most incredible difference in how much we could do

To all NZ law tweeps please dig deep and help with some funding. We operate on the smell of an oily rag, they haven’t even got any oil to smell!

🥳🎉🎆🎆500,000 documents relating to law now available for free on NZLII. And to rub it in, look how much we have achieved on a tiny budget (and @austlii 's invaluable support). Please please please help us celebrate this massive achievement by donating. alumni.otago.ac.nz/donate/NZLII

The thread below is about US caselaw, but it is a great opportunity to remind people how lucky we are to have free access to Australian caselaw via , and to please consider donating to keep them running austlii.edu.au

PACER, the federal court website, charges 10 cents/page to access public records. I accumulate $1,000+ in fees/yr because I rely heavily on court records for my books and articles. In March, I learned that researchers can apply for a fee exception, so I did. Today: rejected!

Thanks The software is open source (link in article to obtain a copy). Andrew Mowbray suggests anyone proposing code changes or wanting to discuss to contact him. Test applications can be built and run with tools at datalex.org

Thanks @grahamgreenleaf , how can people contribute to the DataLex codebase? It is great the source code is available, so how can a bigger community of developers participate? :)

's approach to systems 'traceable to leg' is in 'Explainable AI (XAI) in Rules as Code (RaC): The DataLex approach' papers.ssrn.com/abstract_id=40 No analysis of government systems, sorry.
Quote Tweet
Has anyone seen analysis of how many gov systems are explainable/traceable to leg? I have not seen a single system in a gov that is traceable to leg. Software/IT encodes what operational policy ppl define in biz reqs, which doesn't discriminate leg from dept op policy. Anyone? :)

I understand that the support of the Spanish DPA was crucial under the Directive. But when it comes to adequacy under the GDPR, has Argentina's law advanced sufficiently? When will we find out? (These history lessons are still about the present.)

A lovely donor has notified me that they have arranged that their, and their co-editors, royalties on a recently published book be directed to NZLII instead of themselves. Legal academics are fantastic people. Thank you so much
