Today the @WhiteHouse announced that all federally funded research will be made openly available. Importantly, it eliminates the 12-month embargo. This is the result of decades of work by @SPARC_NA, @petersuber, @mbeisen, and so many more. #OpenAccess whitehouse.gov/ostp/news-upda

Launching our new YouTube channel youtube.com/channel/UCULL7.
We think it’s the 1st for a legislative drafting office.
So far our own videos are mostly us talking over slides, but our Playlists collect other people’s too– 1 is on legislative drafting generally & 1 is on #RulesAsCode

Transforming publishing agreements is very important but meanwhile it is worth remembering that has put over 100K Australasian law articles and related scholarship online austlii.edu.au/au/special/jou for free access. Enormous thanks to 150+ cooperating journals over 25 years.

In 'Global CBPRs: A Recipe for Failure?' papers.ssrn.com/abstract_id=41 I analyse why US attempts to reduce global privacy standards to OECD 1980 levels will fail. APEC's CBPRs (Cross-border Privacy Rules) involves only 3 countries & 42 companies after 10 years.'Globalising' failure!

The difference it would make if even half our law firms did would be so amazing. Just look at how fantastic is with their certain and adequate funding from the legal profession. $10 per lawyer per year would make the most incredible difference in how much we could do

PACER, the federal court website, charges 10 cents/page to access public records. I accumulate $1,000+ in fees/yr because I rely heavily on court records for my books and articles. In March, I learned that researchers can apply for a fee exception, so I did. Today: rejected!

's approach to systems 'traceable to leg' is in 'Explainable AI (XAI) in Rules as Code (RaC): The DataLex approach' papers.ssrn.com/abstract_id=40 No analysis of government systems, sorry.

Has anyone seen analysis of how many gov systems are explainable/traceable to leg? I have not seen a single system in a gov that is traceable to leg. Software/IT encodes what operational policy ppl define in biz reqs, which doesn't discriminate leg from dept op policy. Anyone? :)
