The Anet firings are infuriating, and now I'm seeing--from some of my own followers--lots of uncritical "Well, why shouldn't they lose their jobs for being rude to customers?"

I am absolutely gutted by ArenaNet's response. As long term supporters of their products and someone who saw the original tweet/thread and thought "Man, that guy's completely out of line" their response is utterly reckless at best. (Your point about Kamiya is spot on too)

How was the guy out of line? He made the most respectful and polite comment I have seen on social media.

This entire thread assumes it was a one-time thing, which it wasn't. She has continously cussed out other ArenaNet partners in the past. Difference, those other times she was not talking about the game she works on. This looks more like a last straw kind of deal.

Thanks for this dude, the whole situation felt really slimy to me and seeing that she got fired over it I absolutely do not agree with, and it seems like the entire GW2 community is on-board and celebrating which is completely fucked.

i think it's pretty clear that this wasn't the only reason for the firing. between this and her previous extremely insensitive comments after TB's passing, we don't know what other internal complaints may have contributed to this decision.

I've seen this reasoning go around a lot (and initially used it myself). However she wasn't the only one fired. It's doubtful that they were both 'problematic' employees.

It's not the "fan pressure" that resulted in this, period.

Definitely hate this culture of "One slip and you're gone", and despite not knowing whatever internal issues may have already existed, people losing jobs over twitter is not a good thing for anyone. Firings should be the last resort, especially considering the US insurance system

This is what happens when you are preoccupied with coddling customers. You fire workers to cave to mob mentality and it's HORSESHIT.
