Austin DSA’s Tweets

Join us with former Precinct 1 Travis County Justice of the Peace Candidate, , to knock doors and talk about voting Yes on A and No on B. Police brutality is an existential threat to public safety and must be reined in. Let's build a better world together!

If both A and B pass, we won't get any oversight at all. The two contradictory laws will both be on the books, triggering lawsuits which will hold it up in court for years. That's why they spent $287k creating their front group, VOPA, blatantly lying and misleading voters. 4/5

Prop A will eliminate the secrecy of the "g-file", which means as bad as you think APD is, we will find out much more. Currently, relatives and spouses of cops can serve on the Civilian Review Board, but not people with a Class A or B misdemeanor. Prop A would change that. 3/5

Prop A will significantly expand the powers of the city and community oversight boards, including the authority to interview witnesses and gather evidence, such as 'unfettered access' to body cam footage and the power to publish information online. 2/5

Vote Yes on A, No on B on May 6th! Austin has paid nearly $30M in police brutality settlements since 2020. If cops quit en masse like they're 'threatening to', it's because they are afraid of oversight. There's a reason they spent $287k undermining the APOA. 1/5

Capitalists like Elon Musk never earn their billions. They get rich by sacrificing workers' health and safety and draining public money from our communities. Workers turn their vulnerability into strength through solidarity in open conflict with the boss.

NEW: When Texas gave Elon Musk $64 million to build Tesla’s new gigafactory, he promised to keep workers safe. Instead, many suffered heat strokes, serious injuries, wage theft, and retaliation. Now those workers are speaking on camera for the first time.

Public school employees are overworked, understaffed, and underpaid. For AISD educators to stop leaving their jobs in droves, they need a significant pay raise, sufficient staffing, and shared decision-making. Solidarity with Education Austin!

Also brought on as a supposedly “outside consultant” for the City’s Labor Relations Office is Denton Lowell, a ridiculous looking man who is a leading attorney for “Rampage Law”, according to their website. They've been paid nearly $2M out of taxpayer's pockets! (6/7)

If there weren’t already enough conflicts of interest with Spencer Cronk and his buddy James Wood, the Treasurer of APA’s PAC; the City of Austin’s APA contract “negotiating team” is being spearheaded by two lawyers who defend cops that brutalize people (4/7)

The vote was split plainly down racial lines: all 6 white CM’s voted “Yes”, and the remaining 5 Black or Brown CM’s voted “No”. Don’t even try to pretend this isn’t about upholding white supremacy and the interests of property and capital (2/7)
