So, here is my first attempt to make an actual video/vlog #scicomm thing. It's just me talking over some slides, but I PUT MUSIC UNDERNEATH!
I chose the cheesiest possible music. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. I was giggling to myself the whole time.
It's 4 mins:

Does anyone* ever think about who God was sub-tweeting with the whole ‘Thou shalt not cover thy neighbour’s wife’ business? Like, what did Moses’s neighbour’s wife look like? Do we know?!

Oh man, someone posted a screenshot of this to Reddit and the comments are full of people despairing for this poor teacher reading hundreds of pages of essays. She has 21 seven year olds and they each wrote one paragraph. 🤣

My son had a short writing assignment about something he was interested in, so he wrote a paragraph on video games. He decided to write it in pixelated/Minecraft font. His teacher's only comment on his innovation/creativity/effort? "Don't write your homework like this again."

Yes, kids are brutal. Years ago, told my my wife about my day: "Blah, blah, ... Then I did something stupid; I got on the wrong bus." For weeks after this, my then 3- or 4-year-old daughter would say "Then he did something STUUPID!" whenever we were with other people.

Finally talked to a doctor about the loud whooshing in my ear - suspected eustachian (bless you!) tube dysfunction (tube between nose and ear is blocked!) so now on multiple decongestants for a few days until it hopefully clears up.

GUYS YOU CAN CALL THE EXOPLANET ARCHIVE FROM ASTROQUERY.

Oh and here's the plot, LOL.
Here's how you can make a plot of the mass and radii of the current confirmed planets in one tweet!
Quote Tweet
import pandas as pd
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
planets = pd.read_csv("exoplanetarchive.ipac.caltech.edu/TAP/sync?query")
plt.figure()
plt.loglog(planets['pl_masse'],planets['pl_rade'],'.')
plt.xlabel('Planet Mass [Me]')
plt.ylabel('Planet Radius [Me]')

That's it! Now you have a dataframe that you can do anything with.
The TAP query can bring back whichever columns you like, filtered (using 'where' clauses) if you like.
If you have any questions, check the docs (exoplanetarchive.ipac.caltech.edu/docs/TAP/using) or ask me!

The scariest fact that I learned is that any satellites brighter than 7th magnitude will create electronic ghosts in Rubin data - not just local streaks that can be (tiresomely) removed, but artefacts that will affect the whole image. 👀☠️
