Like the only people I ever see ever actually suffer by this kind of stuff are marginalized creators because they rely on the generosity of others who already have so little to give to make a living/income. This isn't going to affect anyone but them :s

Already that Patreon does so little for discoverability and promotion of smaller and unique creators in favor of single-day-20k-launch Patreons. It's frustrating. That platform shouldn't be making the already unstable footing beneath smaller creators even more dangerous.

God their wording for all of this is so frustrating, too. It's pitched entirely as being pro-Creator because "I make more money" this way, ignoring the fact that most of my (and a TON of other artists') patrons are at my lowest, most-affected-by-this, tier.pic.twitter.com/cxidK8H23Y

It's nice you're "on the lookout" for us, big company that does not actually consult smaller creators, but we're not going to "make more money" if this leads to a bunch of low-tier patrons cancelling/consolidating their pledges.

This does suck. Though you can also thank credit card companies, as that amount is around standard for credit card processing fees. It seems like previously Patreon was eating those costs, maybe. (This is speaking as someone that works in ecommerce and deals with CC rates)
-
Patreon clumps all processing fees at once, at the start of a month, to minimize those costs to an almost negligable amount. This just takes that fee and puts it on the lap of the person pledging, increasing how much it is to pledge to them and that's it :s
-
Jesus that is a terrible business decision.

http://gumroad.com/features does everything
#Patreon does and MORE. I see no reason to stay with .@Patreon when .@gumroad is a great alternative. -
It actually doesn't, it's very functionally different but thanks for the ad anyway.
-
Wasn't intentionally an ad; merely a suggestion for an alternative since I know indie authors who enjoy using it.

Agreed. This is not a huge issue for $5 or $10 pledges, but with those 35 cents flat, some people are going to (have to?) reconsider their smaller pledges.
-
If this goes ahead, I'll be dropping five one dollar pledges and shuffling that onto existing, larger pledges.

I thought the whole point of grouping all your pledges together on the first of the month was to consolidate the $0.30 processing fee. Dumb.

This sucks. I have a couple small pledges running, but I guess those will be all but worthless.

it also sucks that they are passing the costs for credit transactions right onto the user. (2% + 0.35c is that typically)

Sounds like it instead adds a third to patrons costs for lower pledges. Bad either way tbh

Imagine if a ton of creators paused their campaigns for a month in protest. Wonder if that would do anything.
