In October, someone I respect got in touch. She said she knew a man who's assaulted women for 20 years. He's high-profile, she told me. There were lots of stories. And letters. And emails. And tape. I never pressed for who it was. An hour ago, she messaged a name: Junot Díaz.

I of course can't speak for your interactions, but my hope is that you aren't putting anything undue on yourself. I don't think there was anything wrong with you assuming the best prior to having been given a reason to do otherwise. People can be deceptive as fuck.

I think... in fact, I know that I made a lot excuses for his work and for his public behavior. His general disrespect (not assault but plain disrespect) for women around him, which I witnessed but shrugged off an eccentric personality.

He and his work are on my syllabus for a summer course beginning a a couple of weeks. I’m considering my options. Omit with reason? Include with discussion and reason? Other? Input welcome.
