Often I feel that Latinx is as ridiculous an identity as the former British colonies forming together to make a cultural identity. Latinidad, at its core, is the countries' shared history of Iberian colonialism.

@raquefella definitely helped soften my opinion of latinx; as a gay (queer would be a better signifier, tho i've also got my issues with that nomer) costa rican/uruguayan, i see the rest of my community embracing it, & i've no other choice to trust their hearts -
having lived many years in CR id only heard latinx being referred to in costa rica just a few times & every time was from higher-class, american educated millenials (who use English/American language to distance themselves from the 'others' i.e. lower class, traditional Ticos)

so in my context, i saw latinx as a US-popular designation that didn't reflect my lived experience in Costa Rica. I mentioned to
@raquefella that many ppl in CR gender me both ways w/o meaning to, which shows they understand queerness w/o a term that doesn't make sense to them -
but also, when cishet men talk about this, i can wretch, cuz i can care less what their machista asses think. the LGBTQ response/reasoning is all that matters.
