It might seem odd that men and only men have been paid to write their monotonous opinions about this. I personally think it has to do with editors who otherwise mean well, but who are not Latinx (or people of color). I think they’re missing perspectives on what’s at stake.

When I tweeted about this yesterday, I was pretty sure I’d get some engagement. I did strike a cord, and now know I’ve added something to this conversation on language, gender, and representation (which, somewhat ironically, doesn’t come with monetary compensation for me).

That said, I’ve enjoyed your comments here maybe more than any other conversation I’ve had on Twitter. So many perspectives, in multiple languages, across different regions. Y’all are dope—incl folks I disagree w/ who took the time to respectfully engage. You made it worth it.

Op ed pages, meanwhile, might do well to look at their roster and consider that racial diversity on those pages doesn’t mean all that much if it’s all dominated by men.
