When I was a little immigrant I was often late to school. Indian time lol. One day my white teacher said, "You should be late all the time!"
-
I took it to heart. Instead of being sometimes a little late, I switched to being very late every day for weeks -- with absolutely no shame.
-
My white teacher made additional remarks about my lateness but I was operating under her suggestion to always be late.
-
Long story short, I got in trouble. I was honest about what had happened and I'll never forgot my teacher's response: "I was being ironic."
-
I was still very much learning English and I had no idea what the word ironic meant. When it was explained to me, I still didn't understand.
-
The, umm, irony for me today is that this was a white teacher in an all-latinx/native/black class using a singular understanding of irony.
-
To this day, idgaf whether her intention was to make a point about my lateness using irony -- because she was missing the cultural context.

Tina Fey's use of satire doesn't exist in a vacuum. She's doing it at a moment in history when Nazis are mowing people down on the street.
-
Why so much sympathy for Tina Fey, who doesn't ever show up for racial justice? I honestly don't get it.
-
Why is any latinx defending and protecting Tina Fey, who can't even name 10 latinxs?https://youtu.be/Lv6hSgBnyvk

Call it satire. Call it white sarcasm. Call is ironic racism. Call it whatever tf you want. I ain't here for it. But it's not here for me.
