Your quick donations to help support organizations in Charlottesville are welcome, of course. But it doesn't absolve you of anything.
-
White supremacy is systemic; look where else you're putting your money. What kind of oppression is your 401k perpetuating? Do you even know?
-
Meanwhile: Where do you do you work? Does it more or less look like the Nazi rally today? Be honest. If so, you're part of the problem.
-
Media is incredibly important at this moment. So what are you reading? Is it work by people of color that's been equitably paid?
-
What publications do you subscribe to? Do they have a good number of black/latinx/native writers, editors, and executives? Have you looked?
-
What articles did you link to on social media the past week? What percentage have a byline from a black/latinx/native person? Do you know?
-
Who are you following and retweeting on Twitter? Is it mostly white people? Do you take any women of color seriously? Why or why not?
-

-
I know you want to create an infinite distance between yourself and the Nazis. Take a critical look at the connections instead.
-
Your ability to have lives with better access housing, food, air, education, banking, courts, everything hinges on inequity. Know this.
-
Because even Good White People have unearned privilege. And it's people of color who pay the cost for your admission to an easier life.
