If your LA publication's interpretation of people of color only includes asians when hiring, you're doing it wrong. Very wrong.

If your LA publication doesn't have at least 50% black/latinx/native people on staff, you're doing the work of white supremacy.
-
It doesn't count when you allow a black/latinx/native writer to once in a while publish something at your LA publication. That's tokenism.
-
And no, it doesn't count when only white and asian writers are the ones writing about our stories here in LA.
-
If you work at an LA publication and at least half your salaried staff is black/latinx/native, then don't worry about it.
-
If you work at an LA publication and your staff is all or damn near all white and asian, then I'm staring right at you.
-
If and when you do get around to hiring black/latinx/native writers, hire WOMEN. You always have a penchant for men. It's not helping.
-
It's 2017. I can't believe this is even a thing in LA. Majority people of color city with damn near close to zero visibility. Its laughable.

How many Asians are in sports or the entertainment world? We're struggling too. No need to discount us.
-
Nobody is discounting them. Pointing out that by the demographics a publication is representing, they're falling short.
-
I understand why you're saying, but discussing a specific failing isn't saying they aren't falling short with Asian rep either.
-
It's pointing out that they're creating a skewed POV by leaving out the largest demo of your readers.

I agree w the message but not the delivery. Why group Asians in w The white%? Asians are barely represented as a whole in the media
-
I see the intent & agree abt representing the demographic, but not 100% appreciating being dismissed from covering stories I care about too
-
I think the
#modelminority premise is what she's attacking. Out of those Asians, how many are SE Asian? It's disingenuous diversity.

By that same way of thinking, the NFL and NBA are also racist?
