It's bad enough these vulture-like producers don't even ask you if you're ok. They're often vulture-like in their approach. it's gross.

"I'm so-and-so from GIGANTIC NEWS CORP. Can we use your video forever in any form throughout the universe? Promise we'll give you credit!"
-
What does credit mean? They might use your handle/your name as it appears on Twitter in a tiny corner. You video's worth a lot more, tho!
-
These news stations have budgets. Negotiate with them. Worse they'll say is no; leaves you where you started: making nothing off your video.
-
If someone hits you up say, "You can use my video for $500. You can use it exclusively for $5,000." Or something like that. Don't be scared.
-
You were just in the middle of a shooting, a bombing, a stampede?! Don't be scared of negotiating a rate with a producer on Twitter dot com.

Most watched video on a local station for 10 years. Guy gave it to them outright and lives on a teaching income. Um. http://www.kgw.com/news/local/bumpers-cars-in-the-snow-and-ice/370025282 …
