i mean, my last name was “beechwood” at some point in the distant past but everyone mispronounced it and here we are
Yeah, that's not what happened here, I'd be willing to @aurabogado
to bet. @aurabogado
i’m not clear. are you saying i should say this is how he pronounces it or else my sentence is incorrect
Ah, yes, sorry for the lack of clarity. I didn't realize this was based on *his* pronunciation :) @ryanbeckwith
I'm fascinated by the Devin Nunes pronunciation thing. Ask any Portuguese speaker, they're going to say NU-nees. He doesn't.
Devin Nunes pronounces his last name NU-ness. That's cool, whatever. Except most people are pronouncing *that* wrong.
And, to top it all off, a guide based on how to pronounce his name, apparently based on how he says it, is also wrong. Wow.
UPDATE: Messaging every brasilerx i know about this and the best answer is from my cousin: "é pronunciado nunes" ('it's pronounced nunes")
.@aurabogado Did your cousin mean "one syllable, no accent" (like "Gomes" and "Lopes")? Asking for New Bedford & Providence
I think she's being obtuse
@bijancbayne
Ok wait so someone got it wrong: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7YPgwCl6zo … @ryanbeckwith
fwiw, he doesn't pronounce it the way portuguese speakers do, but he's def not saying NEW-ness.... @ryanbeckwith
yeah but i meet tons of americans whose last names are barely related to pronunciations from home country
You know....
