I just saw someone get chopped on Chopped bc they "overcooked" their meat. Yet every black/latinx/native person I know eats meat like this.

Same thing with an Indian taco. The meat is delicious and (surprise!) well done. Just like Navajo mutton... again, it's well done.
-
Every black barbecue I've ever been to? The meat is well done. Perfect potato salad. Perfectly cooked meat.
-
There are cultural and historic reasons for why some people eat meat that's well-cooked. But it's super frowned upon by elite white culture.
-
I feel like a pariah asking for a well-done steak or a well-done burger at a restaurant. It's GROUND MEAT for gawd's sake how sacred is it?
-
Who sets this rare meat is good meat standard? White people, right? Was it the French specifically?
-
You wanna eat a bloody steak? That's cool but how do we begin to make some room for non-white people who like to cook/eat meat all the way?

*fellow journalists, especially white journalists, please don't lift my thread to write something without crediting me thanks

Only in Sonora will you find non-well-done steak--then again, the state is drowning in beef haha

True! We never grew up having meat prepared at different doneness—I didn't eat a rare steak until I was 20—it was underwhelming.

My Italian dad cooked meat thoroughly as well. Hill country subsistence farmers, craftspeople.

Same with my Eastern European grandparents

who in the name of god would eat a taco with RARE MEAT
-
also, the Bligitty Blah Yer Meat Should Be Rare thing is about beauty of the meat on its own, it shouldn’t even be about a taco
