Because being Jewish, while offering a great deal of privilege if you're white/passing, is still a marginalized identity?

Always troubled by the consistent attempts to make "Jewish" mean white with an asterisk. Makes it harder to recognize black Jews exist.

being jewish is an ethno-religious identity for one, and as we are a diaspora people of course we have a look of different looks

a lot of Jewish people would argue that being being Jewish is a cultural identity more than a religion

admittedly this usage is often more precisely about being Ashkenazi, but is it unreasonable to identify that way?

it's a distinct group that's often been and continues to be othered by many non-jewish white people.

The only time it's considered one is generally by those using it less than complimentary so it's a very weird thing to add there
