Black and brown people exploded in LA because of a physical and psychological oppression you will never be able to relate to.

Lee Fang is back with more garbage. This is what happens when wealthy east coast writers try to make sense of LA and Cali. It's garbage.

In this case, Fang is blaming the 92 riots for the 94 crime bill. As if poor black and brown kids are to blame for what the Clintons did.

You have to so far off your rocker to suggest this—and to simultaneously ignore what the 92 riots actually meant in the short and long term.

First of all, although Fang calls it a "lefty" riot it was a black and brown riot. People of color were basically exploding from oppression.

We don't call it the 1992 lefty riot. We call it the RODNEY KING RIOTS. People we're done with racist cops beating black men with impunity.

More than half the people who were arrested in the riots were latinx. Again: black and brown people had had enough.

The first result of the riot was that the national guard occupied LA. Their snipers took posts on top of stores. Terrifying.

At the same time, a lot of city officials were like what do we do now? One obvious answer was to try to deal with environmental inequity.

The city recognized that black and brown people, esp in south central, didn't have access to green space. This was a result of the riots.

What do you know about the South Central Farm? It was one of hundreds of abandoned lots by the diesel train tracks.

The city converted the entire abandoned city block into green space where black and brown people grew their own food. Thanks, riots!

The riots made it so that city officials started thinking about the environment as something that wasn't only about smog. This was new.

1990s California was gripping on to some of the worst vestiges of white supremacy. A lot of it is still with us, like Prop 184.

California is so far from perfect. But compare 2017 to 1992. We went from essentially becoming an English-only state to a sanctuary state.
