#CharlesKinsey, who is black, was laying down on the ground with his arms up. There is no way to be less of a threat. He was shot by a cop.

#DannyTroupe, who is white, was mad a cop have him a ticket in May; he dragged the cop through an exit ramp in July. He wasn't shot. -
This isn't an isolated example. Black people's bodies are unconsciously considered weapons by cops—no matter what they're doing.
-
A black person can be sitting on a porch, walking on a street, driving in a car, trying to live a life but it's always suspicious to cops.
-
A white person can too often yell stunning profanities, pull out a gun, assault an officer, and more—but their humanity remains intact.
-
Cops, and pretty much everyone else, have what researchers call implicit bias—an unconscious preference for whiteness/aversion for blackness
-
I've written about implicit bias in the past; I don't think much has changed:http://www.colorlines.com/articles/putting-casual-racism-trial …
-
You can take an implicit bias test, and I encourage white folks especially to do so (but pls also read next tweet) https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatouchtest.html …
-
If you're white and take implicit bias test, please consider not sharing results with a person of color. Please lean on your white friends.
-
I say this because you almost certainly got biases against blackness. And telling people of color that is... it's awkward and taxing on us.
-
Sharing results with your white friends and family and talking through it might be a lot more productive.
-
Again: if you're white, please don't share you implicit bias test results with me. I'm not here to give you a cookie or to absolve you. Ty.

The problem is not all police, it is a policy of never holding bad PO's accountable for their bad behavior.
-
Slave patrols that hunted down black people years became modern-day police departments. This is historic and systemic.

any good reading on this subject?
-
This is a good book (although there really should be many more on paddyrollers): http://www.rinr.fsu.edu/issue2001/slavery.html …

"Says he was shot" Guess we need to hear both sides?
-
Media still can't seem to get these stories right in the most basic ways. It's ridiculous.
