I've Expo Lines concerns that I've largely kept to myself and my homies. But what @alexandracheney published at @Thrillist is trash.

My concerns center on criminalization (did gang injunctions made Expo Line possible?) and gentrification (whites moving black/latinos out).

What I hadn't considered (but should have) is that racist white people are scared black/latino people can now take the train to the beach.

Straight up when
@alexandracheney says she fears "crime" coming to Santa Monica, I read "Why are black people allowed at the beach now?"3 replies 6 retweets 22 likes -

Keep in mind that, like everything else in LA, Santa Monica beaches were segregated. Black people were KILLED for going to the wrong beach.

To this day, the very presence of a black person in Santa Monica can equal horrific, shameful consequences: https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2015/11/18/my-white-neighbor-thought-i-was-breaking-into-my-own-apartment-nineteen-cops-showed-up/ …

I love LA. I know its history. I know its present reality. When I don't know, I ask. And I'm sick and tired of the way it's represented.
