I think it's an earnest ask from Eater... but still problematic. It might even perpetuate the inequity at the publication.

When we say "people of color," who do we mean? If you mean native, black, and latino writers, then say that.

But it's not just about underrepresented minorities. It's about offering FT work, with benefits -- just like white people get at Eater.

Having an occasional, freelance post by a person of color doesn't make the inequity at Eater magically disappear.

In fact, having A LOT of freelance posts by people of color at Eater while have an all-white staff... that's kinda like segregation.

Aside from all of that: It's stunning how many white people are publicly responding to Eater saying "I'm not a person of color but..."
