That bill, of course, is different than the 1996 welfare bill. It wasn't just racism that informed that legislation — it was also misogyny.
-
The 1996 welfare people put families on the street. It was especially bad for single black mothers and their children. It's indefensible.
-
When Bill Clinton talks about how great the 1994 and 1996 bills were, he's defending policies that continue to devastate black people.
-
Bill Clinton could have easily said, "I was wrong to sign those bills into law, but let's get things right moving forward." But he didn't.
-
Then, to top it all off, he essentially told
#BLM that if they cared about black lives, they'd worry about Africa.pic.twitter.com/JgExHrLFgV - 1 more reply

@aurabogado that crime bill was huge. It did a LOT of things...a lot of good things, and some not so good in hindsight. -
So it did *really* bad things. Like try kids as adults. And bar drug users from food stamps. And give cops military tanks. And …
@RobbyRob2 -
@aurabogado required an annual federal report on excessive use of force by police departments across the country. -
1) These are all things I know, and don't need explained to me but thanks anyway.
@RobbyRob2 -
2) These are all things that Bill Clinton neglected to mention, instead focusing on black-on-black crime.
@RobbyRob2 -
woc: The 1994 crime bill nearly destroyed a generation of black people. wm: Let me tell you why the bill was actually a great thing.
