I didn't finish it (too much hatred) but I read quite a bit. Petes's parents being from Italy mean nothing in this dribble of an essay....
All Vox is doing is giving a platform to a privileged white man to explain why he likes Trump. Violent, racist, misogynist Trump.
Sigh so much garbage. So much.
Then again, this is Vox, which published that Tristan Abbott (aka Edward Schlosser) thing about I'm a liberal and my students scare me.
@aurabogado ugh so much of this "oppressed" narrative exists in my family, being Italian-American and Irish-American in NJ/NY
@decorcione @aurabogado for a while this was true (never as bad as others) but italians negotiated "whiteness" for themselves over time
@decorcione @aurabogado (but that was generations ago)
@Schenck @aurabogado I mean yeah for a very short period of time they were considered a racial minority but they were always European
@decorcione Turks considered European back then too. Whiteness developed over time, esp in US came to envelope italians, greeks, etc.
@decorcione but italians never treated same as black people, esp in US, there's no comparison/still held privilege.
