Everyone celebrating New York decriminalizing public drinking; somehow forgets that black and latino people will still be arrested for it.

I don't know why we still act like rules and regulations are applied evenly to everyone. It's 2016 way too late to keep pretending.
-
When we read "decriminalized," we should understand that it means "decriminalized for white people good luck everyone else!"
-
If New York were serious about ending unnecessary public drinking arrests for *everyone*, it would legalize it. That's what it would take.
-
Same goes for marijuana: legalize it, New York. Otherwise, it's perpetuating a system wherein black and latino people are still targeted.

@aurabogado OTOH pot's only allowed for med use in NY. But we'd still be arresting minorities for pot if it were free & given out by gov. -
Misdemeanor marijuana possession was decriminalized in the city last year. For white people.

@aurabogado Oh? My mistake, had only heard abt state allowing some medical marj use. Either way, you're right, different laws for diff ppl. -
It was done pretty quietly :)
