People of color are disproportionately impacted by climate change; we've been alienated from conversation, but it's ours to have. #COP21

Which reminds me: think about your city. Think about where the railroad yards, ports, and trash dumps are. Oh, that's poc there, huh?
#COP21 -
Rail yards, ports, trash dumps all use diesel machines and vehicles. It's killer. Literally. And it's always poc that live there.
#COP21 -
I'll be tweeting out my articles, talks about poc and climate soon. For now, I wanna see your thoughts on poc and climate, please!

Some things to know about
#COP21 and the climate in general, in case you're not caught up: 2015 will be the hottest year on record. -
It's getting hotter because we, as a planet, are burning too many greenhouse gases.
#COP21 -
To keep temperatures at level that can reasonably sustain life on earth, we've a carbon budget. We've used 2/3 of it already!
#COP21 -
Oh, and it's called
#COP21 because this is the twenty-first time we're having climate negotiations. The other 20 didn't work out that well. -
Also, the
#COP21 can't be a binding agreement for the U.S. because the Senate won't ratify a treaty. So there's that. -
Back to indigenous peoples and the climate: because of who I am and where I come from, this is something I've thought about a lot.

This is a talk where I make connections about colonization, indigenous peoples, migration, climate:http://bit.ly/1q9VmQf

(Also, I've been seeing folks, umm, borrow from my ideas here pretty heavily; would be nice to get some credit ok thanks.)

I revisited the issue when writing about Typhoon Haiyan, too: http://www.thenation.com/article/typhoon-haiyan-global-poor-bear-deadly-brunt-climate-change/ …
#COP21 -
But when it comes to climate migration, we don't even have a FRAMEWORK for understanding this! Uff. http://bit.ly/1KMlsMr
#COP21 -
I've been guilty of using the terms climate migrant and climate refugee interchangeably without even considering the differences.
#COP21 -
Some peoples are already seeing their entire small island states disappear because of rising sea levels due to climate change.
#COP21 -
Not to be confused with people who have been displaced due to more severe and frequent weather events, also due to climate change.
#COP21 -
A lot to think about here—Hurricane Katrina and internal displacement comes to mind, of course.

As the forum's chair explains, when it comes to climate change, "those who have the least bear most of the burden."http://bit.ly/1HEaj62

Oh, and even tho Paris is supposed to be about individual nation's contributions,
@TheCVF reminds us that this can only work collectively!
