It's that time again to show LA some love. This time, through freeways. Stick with me—it'll be worth it.

The number two things I hear from people not from LA about this gorgeous city is: "Ugh but all that smog and traffic, how COULD you?"

Smog and traffic are related, of course. And both are a reality here in Los Angeles. But guess what? You're responsible for them, too.

I know it sounds like a stretch—but if you're reading this anywhere in the U.S. right now, I could just as easily blame you for LA traffic.

To be clear: I don't WANT to blame you for LA traffic. But a lot of you are always wagging your finger at me about it. Let's turn tables.

The clothes you're wearing were probably made in China. Just like the phone or laptop you're reading this on. Like I said: stay with me.

All that stuff comes through LA ports, then hauled to distribution centers via the 710 freeway—one of the dirtiest regions in the nation.

The 710 freeway is super short and packed with diesel burning trucks that haul all the stuff you're wearing and using—day and night.

The 710 goes exclusively through black and brown communities here in LA. Just to make it to you, where your lungs don't breathe the diesel.

Those emissions, which, at this point, are necessary to get you all the goods you demand anywhere in the US, also cause smog here in LA.

So the next time you try to shame someone for living in LA, remember that this city makes your life possible. With grace.
