Ann Louise Bardach's an incredible writer. But her piece on Rubio is what happens when media don't trust actual latinos to write politics.

Bardach gets Cubans and some (but certainly not all) Cuban-Americans. But she doesn't get latinos: http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/10/marco-rubio-profile-213275?paginate=false …

As I've speculated, all these rags are going to try to make sense of Rubio. To everyone's detriment, none trust latino writers to do so.

It's a maddening to see non-latino and ONLY non-latino writers publishing stories about Rubio and latinidad. They don't understanding it.

It's super sad because this could be a time when latino political writers finally get some shine. But your fav publications won't hire them.

"Let's get someone to write about the first latino president!" "Yes but only if they're non-latino, k? "Of course, of course."
