I was the first person to publicly denounce SlutWalk. It was me. And I've largely been erased from the short history of critique against it.
Not that other woc didn't also publish and eventually tweet critiques about SlutWalk. But I remember mine was the first intervention.
I know it sounds big headed of me. But I've also had a lifetime of being erased from the very ideas I helped to develop.
But another reason is that, when I first published my SlutWalk critique, @shiratarrant disagreed. She's this book's editor.
When shit definitively hit the fan over creepy-ass Hugo Schwyzer a lot of white women came around. And @shiratarrant was one of them.
Sometimes things take time. They take years. Sometimes the person who didn't get, eventually does. And that's why I do the work I do.
I'm really happy that @shiratarrant decided to include my essay in this book. It's symbolic but also very real for me.
I'm also remembering that, just four years ago, I couldn't get my critique of SlutWalk published. My, how we've changed the field.
