I bring this up because, as a reporter who's covered the death penalty, I'm always confused when advocates bring up life without parole.

Life without is still a death sentence. It just takes a little bit longer.
-
@aurabogado Some have committed horrendous crimes, so horrendous that life without parole seems justified. You disagree? -
@NUFCfanatic1892 I do disagree—but so does the state. People commit HORRENDOUS crimes all the time and aren't even prosecuted. -
@aurabogado Maybe I've missed some tweets. You are against both the death penalty and against life without parole? -
@NUFCfanatic1892 I'm personally against the death penalty; I'm personally against life without parole, which is a form of the death penalty. -
@aurabogado Sorry if I was asking too personal a question before. I didn't mean to pry in what must be a very emotional and sensitive topic -
@NUFCfanatic1892 it's all good :)

I understand people who think getting rid of the death penalty is ok, but want to keep life without parole because slippery slope. But...
-
The Supreme Court death penalty case was about a man sentenced to murder - because of something he SAID—was never accused of killing anyone.
-
Yes, you read that right. Glossip was sentenced to death because he supposedly asked a friend to kill someone. And that friend did so.
-
The slippery slope is already working—but in the opposite direction. That's how bad the state of the death penalty is in the U.S.
-
And the fact of the matter is that no one is innocent. Not me. Not you. Not anyone. We've all made terrible, immoral decisions.

@aurabogado Yeah, well you know how to avoid both? Don't murder someone. Pretty simple.@ToriGlass -
@nicktjacob@aurabogado 125 people were exonerated in 2014. So maybe "don't murder and don't be falsely accused of murder" would work? -
@ToriGlass How about we continue to improve the system so people aren't falsely accused/imprisoned. Seems a sensible solution.@aurabogado
