This is fascinating. 1) Bernie Sanders knew he could defeat a Democratic black woman for a congressional seat if he ran as an independent.
2) Rather than back a black woman who had positions perhaps more radical than his own, Bernie Sanders ran his own campaign. And won.
3) Bernie Sanders then decides to run for president a quarter of a century later as a Democrat—with radical positions.
So.... yeah. I'm all for black women taking the mic from Bernie Sanders. Because recent history.
@TheReal_ELS @theonlybacchus Is it possible to think that he's the best candidate AND consider how he got there?
@aurabogado He defeated 3 ppl, not just a Black woman. Dolores had 3% of the vote coming in 3rd plc. Sanders had 56%. Why is this important?
@FindVegan I don't know, but I'm about to have a juicy steak in honor of your trolling. Yummy!
@aurabogado we will take a white man who marched with king before a black woman with a plan
@aurabogado Sanders already had name recognition as mayor of Burlington, Sandoval hadn't held elected office in '90 and was shunned by party
@aurabogado Sanders didn't run against Sandoval, Sandoval ran (as a sacrificial lamb) against Sanders who was the favorite to win.
@aurabogado In 88, Sanders had already run, losing just 41-38 vs a Republican, establishing himself as the main left-wing contender.
@aurabogado Sanders had run as a radical both for Burlington mayor and for Congress, he didn't copy Sandoval's radicalism as you insinuate.
@aurabogado So your whole narrative of Bernie snatching a seat away from a black woman, using her race as leverage, is total bullshit.
@aurabogado 1/2 in the 88 election Bernie already ran as an independent and got more votes than the white man(Paul.P) running as a Dem.
@aurabogado yea, this piece of history justifies any black woman taking a mic from bernie. Yup, logical indeed.
