So much headdesk with @TOMS shoes. The owner saw poor brown children and created a solution that only creates more problems.

When
@TOMS shoes says "ONE FOR ONE," you're lead to believe some little child is going to get the same show you bought. Not true, tho. -
You buy a bright patterned pair of
@TOMS shoes. In turn, they give a plain pair to a child somewhere. So there's that. -
And the ridiculously overpriced $50 pair of
@TOMS shoes makes the company a handsome profit. They then give like a $1 shoe to a child. -
What's more is that
@TOMS limits donated shoes to CHILDREN. You know, those young ones that outgrow things like shoes all the time. -
You're an adult with a size 6 shoe. This doesn't change.
@TOMS shoes doesn't donate to adults like you. Only to children who outgrow them. -
And, if you're a little kid wanting a pair of shoes, you have no choice but to let
@TOMS exploit your image for marketing. So shitty. -
We get consistent images of white
@TOMS saviors surrounded by poor children. That creates so much social capital—in the worst way possible. -
What happens? Poor children get a cheap pair of shoes they'll outgrow in a few months.
@TOMS gets a permanent morale booster. So lopsided. -
And
@TOMS is half-owned by@BainCapital. As if private equity isn't the reason poor black and brown children don't have shoes to begin with. -
Little brown children practically begging. This is so gross,

The little girl in the far back? That's my expression when looking at this
@TOMS photo, too.https://twitter.com/TOMS/status/593407137331687424 …
-
Also, unless your life circumstances make it so that you go
#withoutshoes, doing it for a day is pretty repulsive.https://twitter.com/TOMS/status/615631325563879424 …
