More I think about this, sadder it makes me. MAJOR story in South America. Who does the @nytimes send? Someone not from South America.

Don't get me wrong. Someone not from South America can still do well reporting about it. But if they haven't covered the basics? Sigh.
-
What we get instead? Reporters who are like "OH MY GAWD THERE ARE COCA LEAVES IN BOLIVIA!!!"
-
Of course there are coca leaves in Bolivia. Just like in Perú. And in Chile. And in Argentina. This isn't new. It's the Andes, ok?
-
To tweet that coca leaves are "illegal worldwide" but legal in Bolivia is not only inaccurate: it's criminalizing an indigenous practice.
