Looking through critiques of #TheEconomist's Latino issue is a huge reminder of the fact that publications don't hire us.

Several publications, incl your fav lefty ones, aren't even touching what
#TheEconomist did. Because they have NOT ONE LATINO on staff. -
Other publications, which also don't have any Latinos on staff, are having white folks explain why what
#TheEconomist did was wrong. -
I'm all for white folks understanding racism—but isn't a real ally a white person who says, "Hey, maybe have a Latino write about this?"
-
Because, yes,
#TheEconomist's cover was awful. AWFUL! But that's the surface. There's so much more—and if you're Latino, you'll see it. -
I'm so grateful to be able to work at
@Colorlines in moments like these.... Moments when I can take what I know and publish something. -
But there's so much more than the cover, and so much more than the list I published. If you had Latinos on staff, you'd be on it. Sigh.

SIGNAL BOOST: Have any other Latinas published about
#TheEconomist's racist Latino issue? Please let me know if so; please RT if not. - 8 more replies
