I'm just coming around to what apparently happened to @CharlesMBlow's son at the hands of @Yale police. As an alum, I'm not surprised.

As poor poc that
@Yale gave full scholarships and a ton of other resources to, there's a tendency for us to stay silent about racism there. -
I graduated in '12, so what I'm about to tweet about
@Yale is both just superficial but also very recent shit. -
As an undergrad at
@Yale, you belong to one of 12 residential colleges. Mine was called Calhoun—named after John Calhoun, Confederate hero. -
You know how people try and say some Confederate people weren't "really" racist? Not Calhoun. He was a vehement racist.
-
If you're not familiar with it, read John Calhoun's "Slavery is a positive good," a white supremacist document: http://teachingamericanhistory.org/library/document/slavery-a-positive-good/ …
-
Despite Calhoun's profound racism,
@Yale named a residential college after him and insists on keeping his name, likeness and his legacy. -
Meanwhile,
@Yale 's busy building a 13th residential college. We're petitioning to finally name one after a poc. Note: it's 2015. -
It's not just Calhoun College at
@Yale. I can share dozens of stories about my time there and how the school is institutionally racist. -
Just know this:
@Yale houses undergrads in a residential college named after a man who said things like this:pic.twitter.com/F09PoRmRxQ
-
Also know that
@Yale has already gathered a team of experts to shut down conversations about what happened to@CharlesMBlow's son. -
Within 48 hours,
@Yale will issue a feel good unity statement about a group of people that are going to investigate racism or whatever. -
That's how the
@Yale machine works. And it banks on alum staying silent. They forget that some of won't. -
Of course a white guy comes into my mentions to say history and white supremacy have nothing to do with policing.pic.twitter.com/RKwgLzZFrG

@aurabogado Interesting. What did@Yale, as an institution, do that was racist? And to which races, if any in particular? Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aurabogado@Yale Visit Cornell. Struggling with which is worse. -
@aurabogado Not at all unique to undergrads either. Grad students face the same institutional & individual racism.
