The only article I want to read about the "truth" and #Selma starts out like this:
FACT: @AVAETC is a genius.
-
-
White directors can take liberties and artistic license. But let a black woman direct a film and watch them try to tear her down.
-
The criticism
#Selma's getting is about a fear rooted in knowing that if black women have access to making films, they'll do amazing shit. -
I've looked up to DuVernay since I was a kid in LA. Got my hands on her first documentary and made sure it played at my school.
-
Pretty much obsessively followed whatever DuVernay was doing because I knew that if she ever got the opportunity, she would shine.
-
And now that she's shining, they don't know what to do with it. Trying their hardest to find away to suspend her artistic genius.
-
For those of us who aren't in big cities, it's important to remember that watching
#Selma on opening day there is a political act. -
Packing theaters to see
#Selma means putting your money where your mouth is. -
You'll also get to see an amazing film about a few weeks in the life of a complicated man and his enemies, friends and family.
-
The number of black people allowed access to the resources to tell their own stories.
