I see that non-black people of color are back in full force with our problematic attempts at solidarity. Sigh.

Because, if we're to recognize black people's inherent humanity, we have to also recognize and endorse that rage. That includes nasty tones.
-
Policing tone means we assign black people a limited range of emotions. Over the vast range of emotions black people actually feel.
-
Tone policing is rooted in white supremacy's notion that black people's emotions should be controlled. Like their labor. Like their bodies.
-
When we, as non-black people of color, employ tone policing against black people, we're making a big investment in white supremacy.
-
And that kind of investment pays off for non-black people of color. At the cost of black people's humanity.
