@aurabogado hi, can u help steer me in right direction regarding "negr@" ? Outside of context, seen it as identifier & term of endearment &
@floresitas Was my grandfather appropriating the term, or just echoing what he heard? Either way, I wish people had called him his name.

@aurabogado okay I think what u mean, in terms of using it as singling someone out with the term. What about when referring to a group? -
@floresitas As a descriptor, it's fine. "A group of black people were seen eating dinner." No problem. -
@aurabogado ok I think that's where I misunderstood, that using the word anywhere was wrong. I think I understand now. So many afrolatinos -
@floresitas Happy to tweet more with you about it later. Gotta hop on a call :) -
@aurabogado definitely understand now. Thank you! I hate asking anyone to "teach" me anything so I appreciate u taking the time 2discuss :) -
@floresitas I have no problem talking about anti-blackness with other Latinos. Not teaching. Still learning. -
@aurabogado it's hard to realize how much anti-blackness there is within Latinos. It hasn't been easy to accept but I'm glad I'm learning.

@aurabogado like in a descriptive way? Is that still seen as a negative label? -
@floresitas Think about Suárez on the cancha. If he had "just" called a black player "negro," do you see how that's problematic? Reductive?
